I’ve not taken part in this competition before, I originally applied to get involved in March I think but I only got asked to take part for this round. I’ve really enjoyed it so far, I’ve liked having an opportunity to talk about my job which in itself is very niche – most scientists I know haven’t heard of bioinformatics! I’ve also enjoyed all the questions and taking part in chats, when you’ve been the process of university and then work you forget what it’s like to be in school and all you know of science is your biology physics and chemistry lessons, so I hope in the future I’ll be able to explain things better in a way that students can understand.

I’ve also enjoyed reading the answers and perspectives of the other scientists taking part, we all work in different fields so it gives us a chance to meet scientists as well.

I’ve never done anything like this before – and I can honestly say that I’ve loved it.
The question times are just manic, I just wish I had done more keyboard skills at school as my typing is letting me down.
I love the variety of questions and I’m so happy that so many students are interested in what happens in the labs.

This is my first time participating in ‘Im a Scientist’ but it has been a great experience and the questions you have all asked are everything I hoped they would be. Some really tough and thoughtful questions, but also some silly questions which I think are important in a different way. Science is about learning new stuff, but it should also be about having some fun and pushing the boundaries a little bit.

Not done anything like this before and really didn’t know what to expect. Hopefully I’ve been able to answer some of your tough questions well and make you laugh a little bit as well.
