I was really shy. I still struggle with things like giving presentations, but I’ve gotten a lot better as an adult – doing science you have to communicate with others, even if it’s just your lab partner or colleagues. In a lab it’s really important to tell others that you’ve made a mistake, even if you’re embarrassed, but it could effect a patient’s test results.
I also spent too much time on the computer and playing games. I still spend all day on a computer, sadly not playing games.
I was a bit of a tomboy, not the little girl my mum wanted – I think she used to despair of this girl who was interested in engines, airfix models, lego and cars.
But we’re all different and we do find a place in the world where we can be ourselves and be happy
Hi Adam. I was quite strong willed and liked to do my own thing. I often had detention at school for not doing my homework, but didn’t mind as I could just do it in detention instead. I always stood up for the underdogs and hated school bullies, but I had some good friends who tried to keep me out of too much trouble. I think I probably caused quite a lot of stress for my teachers (and my mum and dad) and if I met my teachers now, I would apologise to them.
