I like the diversity of people I get to work with – great scientists come from all backgrounds and from all over the world. Working with others who like their jobs, who want to discover new medicines and help people live longer and healthier is wonderful.

I like that i’m always learning new things. You come across a lot of problems so you need to be able to think creatively and work well with people who are experts in different areas!

I love the variety, every day is different. I work with lots of people from students to professors and that’s interesting. I love the challenges, whether it’s problem-solving or taking things apart to see why they’ve stopped working.
I think it’s because i’m curious about everything – or nosy as my mum would have said!

I like getting to learn lots of interesting things about computers and genetics. I like that the work I’m doing can help sick people NOW (or close enough, by the time they get their results) and in the future as I make the genetic testing service better. Many scientists might have to wait a long time before what they’re working on gets used in the clinic. Another good thing about being a clinical scientist is that you get to be involved in research, while having a steady job – you don’t need to worry as much about writing grant proposals and getting funding for your experiments. It’s also a good balance of carrying out routine testing, and researching and developing new tests.
