Take your time and build your knowledge properly. It is very important to understand the work you do. Speak to other people who have similar jobs and ask lots of questions. Never be afraid to ask questions. Next, find yourself someone who can offer you advice and help you make the right choices. This person will be what is known as your ‘mentor’ and they can really help you to develop into a great scientist. Always work to the highest possible standards and if you are working with animals, always consider how your work will affect them and be caring. Finally, be creative – ‘crazy ideas’ are not always crazy – if we don’t try new things, we will not make new discoveries.

I see you would like to become a teacher. That’s wonderful. Teaching is the most important job in the world.
