I wasn’t really sure, because I liked science, but I didn’t really like lab work or practicals, even at university. But I’m lucky to work under a field when I only use computers.

When I was young, I changed the job I wanted nearly every day, but being a scientist was always one of them. I guess I became totally committed to becoming a scientist when I was around 14. This went from wanting to be an animal behaviourist to a brain surgeon, but always something in science. I think I made a good choice. The UK is one of the best places in the World to be a scientist and for the size of our country, probably the number one. Science is a very inclusive industry and their are opportunities for those who want to make a difference.

I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do until I was almost leaving school, deciding to do science at Uni was just me putting off a decision until later – but I’m so glad I went down the science path as I don’t think I’d be as happy as I am doing anything else now

I didn’t think I’d become a scientist. I was thinking of doctor, perhaps lawyer. Or psychologist. But not scientist. In the end, my interests just carried me this way and there is a chance I will not be working in science for the rest of my life.
